Stretching 3,500 kilometres from the Caspian to the Adriatic Seas, the Southern Gas Corridor is a series of pipelines planned to run through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Greece and Albania before making landfall on Italy’s southern coast. By 2020 the project aims to deliver 16 billion cubic metres of gas to Europe annually.
Different legs of the project could soon receive billions in public money from development banks, including a loan of $1.5 billion from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, over $3 billion from the European Investment Bank and another $1 billion from the World Bank.
