After five years of resistance, heavy equipment has entered the village of Jangkaran, Indonesia, to begin the construction of an international airport set to destroy the sand-dune ecosystem and houses of residents already forced out of the area.
The New Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA), in the coastal region of Kulon Progo, was first agreed in January 2011 by the Indonesian government, represented by state-owned enterprise PT Angkasa Pura I.
