In Kathmandu’s popular relaxation destination, Garden of Dreams, photoshoots take place beside fountains, rose bushes and the grand neoclassical pavilions. But these are not professional photographers taking headshots or wedding photos. They’re regular young Nepalese people: courting, flirting and social-media obsessed. ‘[This] is what you need to do if you want to get a girlfriend in Nepal,’ says 24-year-old singleton Avash. ‘It doesn’t matter if you are good-looking or kind. You need to have a good camera so you can take pictures of your girlfriend looking nice for Instagram.’
