A portrait of María Magdalena Reyes, a 60-year-old indigenous woman from Vaupés, part of the Colombian Amazon, who still works the land every day. It’s from a series titled Inner Disruptions shot by Colombian documentary photographer and visual artist Liliana Merizalde Gonzalez which seeks to explore the strength and pain in her subjects’ stories as a reflection of political, social and community situations. María Magdalena’s life has been marked by the tragic deaths of those close to her at every stage and Gonzalez chose to extend her back with a great leaf to symbolize the process of her inner growth and ability to reinvent herself. Gonzalez describes herself as a ‘photographer interested in identity, memory and territory issues linked to women and our strength’.
