Aid or autonomy?
Agricultural labourers from migrant backgrounds in Italy are caught in the crosshairs of a battle… for their well-being.
At first glance it might seem like a good problem to have. On the one hand, there are NGOs, which want to improve dangerous living conditions in shanty towns throughout the Apulia region. On the other, there are unions, which push for better working conditions.
The New Internationalist is an independent bi-monthly not-for-profit magazine that reports on action for global justice. We believe in putting people before profit, in climate justice, tax justice, equality, social responsibility and human rights for all.
