Cycling home one evening, I saw an extremely distressed woman sitting in the middle of a busy road. She was clearly having a mental health crisis, and in danger, as cars swerved around her. I pulled over and coaxed her off the road, and two others helped.

One man called the police, who showed up a few minutes later with an ambulance. There’d been no crime, and the officers assured me they would make sure she was okay, but I’m worried she got taken to the police station rather than a place of care. If it had just been me, I don’t know if I would have called the police, but what can you do in these situations?
