Just how much ground has been covered since the release of Salt Rain (2001) by British-based singer and musician Susheela Raman is shown in Queen Between, the singer’s exhilarating new album. Salt Rain deserved its multitude of accolades but Raman’s subsequent work, exploring the sound-world of her Tamil heritage, has set the background for a new recording which swerves with easy elegance between ecstatic incantation and a swooping vocal.
