Once upon a time women knew where we stood with advertising. It was there to make us feel insecure so we’d buy something we didn’t need. Some of it still does this, presenting unachievable lifestyles, principally because couture evening wear is utterly impractical for boarding a late night helicopter from the upper viewing platform of the Eiffel Tower. If anyone has such a lifestyle it is a mystery to me why I’d want to smell like them.
We are flawed and broken and inadequate but for just a little of our hard-earned cash we can fleetingly experience ‘when only the best will do’, ‘maybe she’s born with it’ and ‘the real thing’.
