Recently I read a quotation attributed to Winston Churchill, in which he said: ‘If a man is not a socialist at 20 he has no heart. If he’s not a conservative at 40, he has no brain.’

Now, I’m no Churchill aficionado, but I’m pretty sure the sweaty old sod never said anything of the sort. Those words are about as unlikely to have come out of his mouth as that bloody cigar of his. Churchill hated socialists as much as, if not more than, he hated fascists. However, he would definitely have agreed with the backend of the quote about anyone who isn’t a conservative by 40 being brainless.
