The ‘Made in Taiwan’ label was once synonymous with mass-produced products. But following a hugely successful ban on plastic bags introduced in 2018, the country is garnering a greener image: all single-use plastics – straws, water bottles, coffee cups, utensils etc – will be phased out by 2030. Starting next year, restaurants and stores will be banned from offering customers single-use plastic.
This cannot come soon enough. Over 12.7 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans every year, with microplastics finding their way into the marine food chain on which millions of humans depend.
