A feminist group that has helped thousands of women access safe abortion pills around the world has taken the revolutionary step of producing the medication themselves. Women Help Women’s new mifepristone-misoprostol combo pack has been redesigned to reflect what people with unwanted pregnancies need, including extra doses to give users the reassurance of a complete abortion. The packs are also lighter, making them easier to mail discreetly to people who live in countries where abortion is restricted by law, stigma or lack of access. Women Help Women said the new pack will put more control in users’ hands, and marks an important step towards ‘decentralized abortion access’.
A Greek court has acquitted 24 humanitarian volunteers of all charges for their life‑saving rescue work off Lesbos, ending a seven‑year legal ordeal that rights groups condemned as the largest criminalization of solidarity in Europe. The defendants faced jail sentences of up to 20 years if found guilty of smuggling refugees to Europe. Amnesty International said it hoped the decision would send a ‘strong signal’ to the Greek government that ‘defending human rights should be protected and celebrated, not punished’.
