Plying his trade in the coastal Bangladeshi city of Chattogram (formerly Chittagong), this cotton-candy seller is hard to miss with his wares towering above him. Cotton candy is often referred to by kids in these parts as ‘old person’s hair’. That name may be local, but the pink and white colours of the candy seem to be the most favoured wherever in the world one may buy the stuff. This striking image, with its dramatic backdrop of raggedy trees, was taken by freelance and self-described ‘adventure-loving’ photographer Naima Perveen. Having started out by undertaking courses at the Photoart Institute in Chattogram, Perveen has gone on to produce work that has been exhibited widely, winning numerous international prizes.
