Beekeepers in Kitui, Kenya, have been restoring depleted acacia forests and the Muuku tree in order to increase honey output and tackle drought. Studies show that planting more trees can help boost rainfall, thought to be down to the way they react with cloudy air.
‘Since we started this greening project honey production has increased, therefore making beekeepers earn a decent wage, unlike before when production was just by grace of God,’ says Euticus Kiyungu, chairperson of the co-operative.
