‘I don’t want it on my doorstep, and I’d fight not to have it on anyone else’s,’ says Jenna Victoria, a resident of Pembrokeshire in southwest Wales. She is referring to the Deep-space Advanced Radar Concept (DARC) – a 27-satellite dish radar station for tracking foreign communications and military satellites, set to be built at the nearby Cawdor Barracks.
Part of the AUKUS security pact between the UK, US and Australia, the station is one of several proposed UK DARC sites, and has been actively opposed since May by residents. The Pembrokeshire Against Radar Campaign (PARC) cites a range of concerns, including disruption of the landscape, damage to wildlife and tourism industries and potential health risks of living near one of the highest-radiation projects ever built on British soil.
