When Evelyn Hollow made the transition from radio to television, she knew she would face greater scrutiny – but there was one reaction she didn’t foresee. ‘They always say “oh you don’t look like what I thought you would look like”,’ she explains. ‘I’ve had some interesting responses to that – people thought I’d be blonde, people thought I’d be 50. I don’t think they were expecting an Elvira-looking goth bird.’
Hollow is the resident ‘believer’ on the hit BBC series The Battersea Poltergeist and Uncanny, where she is paired with ’sceptic’ (and also good friend and fellow psychologist) Ciarán O’Keeffe. Presented by Danny Robins, the franchise’s popularity exploded in podcast form during the UK’s first Covid-19 lockdown, tapping into and accelerating the global fascination with the unknown.
