‘Sur’: a calendar for the southern hemisphere Seated comfortably on our sofas, watching our devices of mass distraction, in our living rooms, inside our houses, in the midst of our cities, we’ve stopped looking at the sky, our wider home. Everything that is woven together on this Earth is made of celestial thread, children of the cosmos. In my calendar ‘Sur’ there are 12 paintings, guided by the God of day and his journey during the year and joined by the moon and the stars. When not blinded by the cities, they let themselves be seen, and tell us their secrets. This painting is of the Pleiades, which represent the months of November-December. The mother of all the stars: that’s how the Inca envisioned this star cluster, to which they gave the name Collca. In November this cumulus of stars can be seen all night.
