Debt campaigning takes many forms today. Still alive and needed are more traditional campaigns to drop the debts of impoverished nations, including ‘odious’ debts where the loans should never have been offered to corrupt dictators in the first place.
The continuing financial crisis has brought these issues home to many wealthy Western nations, with campaigns against austerity, tax evasion and banking sleaze, and for greater social provision. With a rising public consciousness of equality politics, we hope these campaigns will continue to mesh and gather strength.
