Over the past 10 years, land that could raise crops to feed up to a billion people has been sold off, according to a recent report from Oxfam. Our Land, Our Lives predicts the situation will worsen for those already living in poverty, with wealthier countries scrambling to secure their food supplies as prices continue to rise.
Communities are being driven from their farmland to make way for investors. Two-thirds of land bought by foreign investors in developing countries is used for export crops and biofuels, meaning that local people do not benefit.
