The women remain coy about how the sperm manages to breech the tight security of Israeli prisons and numerous checkpoints. Due to restrictions on visits, it is likely that couples get help from families visiting other prisoners.
According to Addameer, a Palestinian prisoners’ rights association, there were 5,007 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails in September. Many are serving multiple life sentences for participating in resistance against occupation.
These ‘prison babies’ are the embodiment of the expression ‘existence is resistance’, often seen sprawled across the separation wall in defiance of the Israeli administration’s systematic oppression of the Palestinian population.
