This story begins with its hero – Odidi Oganda – being gunned down on the streets of Nairobi. As arrangements are made for his funeral, Odidi’s sister, Ajany – who has just returned from Brazil – tries to understand why and how her brother was murdered.
It initially seems as if this killing will be the central concern of Adhiambo Owuor’s epic saga. But a number of other plot lines are introduced and the novel becomes a different beast entirely.
