Misery was etched on the face of Rami Zaanine from Beit Hanoun village in northern Gaza. The 16-year-old sat in a small hut made of tin and nylon fabric. Pointing to the debris of his family’s house, he said, with tears in his eyes: ‘These little tin sheets cannot protect us against the cold winter.’
Rami’s family home was destroyed during Israel’s bombing of the Gaza Strip last July. The 51-day war left over 2,200 dead and wounded 11,000. It also damaged more than 160,000 homes, of which 12,400 were completely destroyed.
