With resistance to ‘frontline’ antibiotics now commonplace, experts are calling for immediate action against overuse in farming.
The more often antibiotics are used, the quicker bacterial resistance builds up. Each dose administered to a sick human or animal encourages resistant bacteria to thrive. These resistant bacteria can move between animals and humans – through the environment, direct contact, or handling and consuming meat.
