Following two months on strike, doctors at public hospitals in Kenya returned to work in May after reaching a deal with the government.

Kenya’s public healthcare sector became paralyzed after medics across the country walked out on 15 March 2024, demanding the implementation of a 2017 labour agreement between the government and the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU). Health workers also wanted salary arrears to be paid and more trainee doctors hired, as well as comprehensive medical insurance cover.
