As thousands of women took to the streets of Nairobi to demand an end to femicide, a group of men was filmed talking to some young protesters. As the men ranted about how women should not be complaining, one man faced right into the camera and declared: ‘We are going to kill you.’1

This demonstration was one of several taking place in cities across Kenya on 27 January 2024. Women’s groups rallied citizens against gender-based violence, deploying a series of hashtags across social media including #StopKillingUs, #EndFemicideKe, and #TotalShutDownKe.
