An eight-year study of 1,000 male couples, in which one partner had HIV and was taking antiretroviral drugs, has found there to be no transmission of the infection when having unprotected sex. Dr Michael Brady, a medical director at the Terrence Higgins Trust, told The Guardian: ‘It is impossible to overstate the importance of these findings.’
The study aims to play an important role in de-stigmatizing HIV/AIDS. With a possible end to the disease in sight, the focus should now be on making sure the 40 million people worldwide living with HIV all have access to treatment.
