Behemoth financier Goldman Sachs finally bowed to pressure from a coalition of over 100 environmental and indigenous rights groups in January. The bank has agreed to end all financing for drilling and oil exploration in the Arctic following a campaign of letter writing, disrupting shareholder meetings and face-to-face talks.
The bank has joined a growing group of global banks that have ruled out funding for Arctic drilling. This puts the climate movement one step closer to keeping Arctic oil in the ground forever.
