Connecting with the natural world – from enjoying parks to doorstep downpours – can help increase wellbeing for migrants living in cities, according to researchers at the University of Sheffield.

Through the study, academics sought to better understand experiences of migration, as well as how people interact with urban nature. Common themes raised by interviewees included the importance of everyday contact with the natural environment, as opposed to ‘special visits’. The famously unpredictable British weather was a big talking point. For some the struggle to adapt to it was associated with their feeling of belonging (or lack thereof).
