Fear has taken hold in neighbourhoods across Chicago. Since President Trump launched an aggressive deportation drive in September, federal agents have not only detained undocumented migrants, but also skirmished with neighbours who tried to intervene, and attacked bystanders caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. In the first two months, more than 3,000 people were arrested.
In response, residents have set up hotlines and anti-raids groups to defend those at risk of arrest and deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents.
