Channel pushbacks?
In yet another shameful chapter in its immigration policy, the UK government has approved its Border Force to turn away boats that are carrying migrants across the English Channel.
Not only is this highly dangerous when the UK to France shipping lane is one of the most busy and perilous in the world, but these ‘pushbacks’ could break several international laws – including ones that oblige captains to help people in distress at sea.
