‘Losing my child was terrible,’ says Svetlana Popova, from the Kherson region of Ukraine. ‘I was in despair.’

Popova is one of many Ukrainian parents who have been separated from their children during the Ukraine conflict. Her 15-year-old daughter Alina was transferred to Saransk in Russia. ‘I didn’t know about my daughter’s whereabouts for a several months, until Alina found our relatives on the internet,’ Popova explains. Alina was eventually rescued in April this year by Save Ukraine, an organization working to repatriate Ukrainian children from Russia.
