I try to buy secondhand books where possible to reduce waste… but I worry I am not supporting authors! Will publishers cut the numbers published if fewer new books are purchased? Am I contributing to a civilization with less books, limited to bestselling authors; where books become an expensive luxury?
The impact on workers producing the goods – and how to manage this – also applies when buying other secondhand items, but while I feel having less consumer goods is for the best overall, I can’t find any advantages in reducing the number of books in the world!
