A mucky northern England scrapyard is a long stretch from the selfish giant’s garden in Oscar Wilde’s original fairy tale and the two boys who bring along metal they pick up and pilfer are hardly fairy-tale innocents. Arbor – small, foul-mouthed and restless – has assaulted another boy who has taunted his bigger, easy-going mate, Swifty, because he’s from a gypsy family.
