In discussions about migration, not many people think of Africa as a first-choice destination. But in fact the majority of African migrants seek opportunities in regions close to home. And large numbers of refugees are hosted in African countries – some of which have progressive asylum policies.
Uganda is one of them. As I told a Syrian neighbour of mine, who I met while studying in London, she and her scattered family would be more than welcome there.
