Xylella is behind an unprecedented crisis in southern Apulia.
‘In the fields, you see miles of death,’ says Agostino Petroni. ‘It’s like being in a war zone after a bomb is dropped.’
Petroni is secretary general of Save the Olives, a non-profit organization launched by crop scientists, farmers, artists and businesspeople in Apulia, southern Italy, to fight a little-known bacterium: Xylella fastidiosa.
