When it comes to the way our clothes are made, there are some things that the brands, factory owners and governments would rather we didn’t know.

Last year, when I was packing for a move to Cambodia, I went out to the high-street clothing store H&M and bought a stack of plain, $10 T-shirts, without even thinking about their provenance. When I arrived in Cambodia, I discovered that nearly 300 female workers had recently fainted in a factory that makes clothes for the Swedish transnational.
