In a landmark ruling, Peruvian judge Andrés Abelino Aguilar rebuffed the criminalization of protest by acquitting 19 human rights defendants and declaring they had ‘no case to answer’.
The small farmers and grassroots activists from Cotabambas, Apurimac, in the Peruvian highlands, were arrested during a protest against Las Bambas copper mine in September 2015.
