Representatives of communities devastated by global coalmining projects joined the fossil fuel divestment movement for a tour of Britain in October. It aimed to link the local damage being wrought by coal with the global damage caused by carbon emissions, to strengthen the case against both with investors.
Rogelio Ustate Arregocés was one member of the delegation, which visited universities, elected representatives, investors and some of the mining companies themselves. He was violently displaced from Tabaco, his village in Colombia, 13 years ago – to make way for the largest coalmine in Latin America. His shattered community has still not been resettled.
