In another eye-roll inducing event, billionaire Elon Musk in November promised to write a $6 billion cheque to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), on condition that it could prove the cash would finally ‘solve world hunger’.

A back-and-forth on Twitter between the billionaire and WFP president David Beasley – who offered to hop on a helicopter to seal the deal – clarified that while such a sum wouldn’t wipe out hunger forever it could: ‘save 42 million people on the brink of starvation’.
