At Adré refugee camp in Chad, volunteers from the Saving Alginina Initiative hand out a simple meal of beans to children far too young to understand the war that they have fled in their home country of Sudan. It’s a modest yet nourishing refreshment much needed in a camp housing 150,000 people.1

Most of the camp’s residents are from Al Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, which was brutally attacked by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias in 2023.2 Families were torn apart, homes burned to the ground and entire communities displaced. Saving Alginina began as a response to this violence, to provide immediate relief to a city engulfed in horror.
