Ethiopia’s volatile Tigray region in the country’s north that saw the end of a brutal civil conflict in 2022 is now feared to be tilting towards a proxy war with neighbouring Eritrea.
Tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea are again mounting just seven years after the longtime foes mended ties in 2018. Leaders have clashed over unresolved issues including border disputes and Addis Ababa’s efforts to access Eritrea’s coastline.
