It’s been a turbulent 2013 for Central African Republic (CAR). In February, an alliance of rebel groups called ‘Séléka’ launched a coup d’état against the government of François Bozizé, who himself seized power 10 years previously.

Well-armed and efficient, Séléka swept through the country, attacking economic infrastructure and recruiting soldiers en route to the capital Bangui, which fell on 24 March.
