As part of Britain’s counter-terrorism strategy, some repair and maintenance workers will soon be able to report any suspicious activity directly to the designated authorities.
The Greater Manchester Police has been running pilot programmes to train housing providers and social landlords to spot and report people ‘at risk of radicalization’. The Adactus housing association and repair firm Mears Group have taken part in the pilot, with around 100 managers and resident liaison officers receiving the training. According to a spokesperson: ‘Within the next two to three months it will be cascaded down to all our officers in the Manchester area, including all frontline staff, and those in charge of repair and maintenance.’
